WASHINGTON – The Alliance to Save Energy Killer Watts (presented by Sign of the WhaleTM) continued to swing a lineup’s worth of hot bats, pounding out 31 hits as they cruised to a 25-10 victory Monday night against the Tree Sluggers of the PEW National Environmental Trust. The Watts are off to an incredible 4-0 start and are currently on a six-game winning streak dating back to the end of last season.
Outfielder Paul Bostrom once again led the Alliance offensive attack, going a perfect 5-5, scoring two runs and knocking in five more. Shortstop Sean “Meatloaf” Garcia added another four RBI, while infielder Emily Curley, outfielder Rob Magispoc, and first baseman Beth DeNoia each collected four hits.
The Killer Watts defense continued to make highlight plays behind pitcher Holly Seeloff (3-0). Outfielder Jared Kronitz made a diving catch in left center to end the first inning, and third baseman Paul Karrer snagged a liner in foul territory to end the fourth. While playing at shortstop, Garcia hauled in two over-the-shoulder catches with his back to the plate, combined with second baseman Kelly Guhanick for key forceouts to quash multiple Tree Slugger rallies, and managed to fall down while running home on a hit by outfielder Eric Plunkett. Garcia eventually scored.
The game was called after the top of the sixth inning due to the 15-run mercy rule in the Environmental Non-Profit League, marking the second straight week the Watts have accomplished this.
The Killer Watts management is working to reschedule their rained-out April 20 matchup against the Defenders of Wildlife Killer Fairy Shrimp during their bye week following the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The game date and time will be determined. The Watts’ next regularly scheduled game is Monday, June 1 against the Fighting of the World Wildlife Foundation. The first pitch is set for 6:15pm.
NOTES: Watts veteran Steve Capanna has caught fire since returning to action in Europe, after the team sold his contract to the Alliance to Save Energy’s Greek affiliate, Μεγάλα ραβδιά. On Monday, Capanna was honored with the Όταν η κόλαση είναι ο ίδιος Player of the Week award. A prospective contract offer will be dependent upon the approval of an extension to Capanna’s temporary work visa.
